Breakfast on Newcastle Quayside: give the morning a decent start

Breakfast on Newcastle's Quayside from 7am on weekdays. Find Fork at One Trinity Gardens for breakfast focaccia, lighter choices and coffee.

Breakfast can end up being whatever you find between leaving the house and joining the first meeting. Sometimes that's a banana. Sometimes it's a biscuit from a packet with a meeting-room history nobody wants to investigate.

If you're heading towards Newcastle's Quayside, Fork opens from 7am on weekdays at One Trinity Gardens, Pandon Bank. There's time for something more deliberate before the calendar takes over.

The breakfast menu includes bacon and sausage focaccia, avocado options and lighter choices such as toasted focaccia. Coffee can be as simple as an espresso or as leisurely as a cappuccino you actually sit down to drink.

Work backwards from your morning

If you're heading straight into work, check the menu before you arrive and decide how much time you've got. A familiar order can make the morning easy. Trying something new is better when you aren't already late and glaring at your phone.

If you're meeting somebody, make breakfast part of the arrangement. Pick a time that leaves room to order, eat and have the conversation. A catch-up becomes rather less pleasant when one person is trying to swallow breakfast while putting their coat back on.

And if you have a quiet morning, you can enjoy that too. A café is somewhere you can sit with a coffee without needing a meeting, a celebration or a convincing explanation for being there.

Fork's Italian influence makes focaccia a natural part of the breakfast menu. The filling can be familiar; the bread gives it a different character. Choose something that sounds good and enough time to enjoy it.

We're a weekday café, open Monday to Friday. Check current opening hours before making a special trip, particularly around holidays.

The rest of the day may still be full of things you didn't ask for. At least breakfast can be something you chose.

Read something good. Eat something better.
